Born just south of London England in the 1980s, John Edward Wells began taking piano lessons when he was 7 years old playing at regional classical festivals. He added drums to his repertoire at age 10; taking lessons from three time world drumming champion Raye Du-Val. He began performing with a diverse variety of bands, playing gigs from age 15. At 17, John taught himself the fundamentals of electric bass in time to put together a seven-piece funk outfit for a gig to see in the new Millennium. After arranging and performing with this band for almost two years, he decided to get serious about his bass playing. John was accepted into the Los Angeles Music Academy in the autumn of 2003 where he received musical nourishment from Jimmy Haslip, Abe Laboriel, Lee Sklar and Phil Chen as well as studying personally with Jerry Watts Jr. (Steve Vai, Andy Summers, Dave Stewart, Sergio Mendez, Billy Idol, Simon Phillips), Hussain Jiffry (Dave Weckl, Chaka Kahn, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Michael McDonald) and Ed Lucie (Buddy Rich, Stevie Wonder). John has since been an instructor at the school.
